Daily Reflections for October 2026

Continue on for a daily gospel reflection…

Almost every day, I look into the readings that will be read at Mass in the Roman Catholic Church and offer a brief reflection on the gospel for that day. I often take an anachronistic approach allowing the words of Jesus to speak to me today.

May you be blessed as you consider the word of God each day.

A brief reflection on Luke 10:1-12

Readings from October 1, 2026

“The harvest is abundant.”

Jesus sends his disciple into the world around them equipped only with his word and his support. He sends them into a world in many ways not very unlike our own. There is so much to be done. The world of Jesus’s time was wanting more, especially the marginalized populations. The world of Jesus’s time was in need of love and in need of the gospel, just as we are today.

“Peace to this household.”

The disciples, although sent forth with very little materially, are never quite alone. They rely upon God, of course, but they also rely upon the community around them. They were sent to conquer minds and hearts, but to invite those around them to a more abundant life. They rely on the generosity of the communities in which they witnessed. Those around them became very much a part of their work. There is great peace in that, knowing that our efforts to bring the gospel to the world necessarily rely upon our audience, guided as we all are by the Holy Spirit.

“The Kingdom of God is at hand for you.”

This is indeed good news. The Kingdom of God where God’s perfect will is done on earth as in heaven is beginning even if it will not be completed until the end of time. The transformation of the world to the new Jerusalem begins now. It begins here. It begins with you and me.

May we go out as the disciples did and bear great fruit!
